Summary

  • Johnny Knoxville has confirmed that while he remains the mastermind behind Jackass 5, he is medically prohibited from performing any stunts involving head impact due to a history of severe concussions and a previous brain hemorrhage

  • The film, set to premiere in theaters on June 26, will feature a combination of high-risk new material performed by the younger cast members and a collection of never-before-seen archival footage from the original crew

  • In a notable development for the franchise, Bam Margera has reached an agreement to appear in the film’s archival segments, effectively ending a long-standing public feud and legal dispute with the production team

Johnny Knoxville is stepping back into the fray for Jackass 5, but with a significant catch. Following the harrowing bull stunt in 2022’s Jackass Forever — which resulted in a brain hemorrhage, a broken rib, and a permanent shift in his medical standing—the 54-year-old creator is facing a new set of physical boundaries. While the franchise has always been synonymous with reckless abandon, Knoxville’s approach to the upcoming June 26 premiere is now dictated by his history of traumatic brain injuries.

Appearing on the Books That Changed My Life podcast, Knoxville addressed the inevitable question of his own participation in the chaos. His answer was a mix of medical sobriety and classic Jackass defiance, “I can’t do anything where I can get another concussion. [I’m] way over my limit for concussions, but I don’t care about anything else. I just can’t get hit in the head anymore — but a lot of other guys can.”

While Knoxville plans to steer clear of head trauma, he remains the architect of the “pure hell” his castmates endure. The fifth installment, which will be released by Paramount Pictures, is expected to feature a blend of fresh insanity from the new generation of performers and rare archival footage. Notably, the film will include previously unseen material featuring Bam Margera, following a settled legal dispute that marks a symbolic end to a years-long rift. Even if Knoxville is officially “retired” from the most life-threatening impacts, his spirit of subversion remains the heartbeat of the production.
