Apple has officially unveiled the new AirTag, a second-generation item tracker engineered with an expanded connectivity range and enhanced audio findability. Powered by the same Ultra Wideband chip found in the latest iPhone 17 and Apple Watch lineups, the updated accessory strengthens the Find My network ecosystem. The launch aims to streamline how users track essential items while introducing a more powerful Precision Finding experience and robust privacy protections.
Technical upgrades center on the inclusion of Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which allows users to navigate toward lost items from significantly greater distances. This hardware parity with the iPhone 17 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra 3 enables haptic and visual guidance that is more responsive than the original 2021 model. Additionally, a new Bluetooth chip further extends the discovery perimeter, ensuring that the Find My network can relay location data more efficiently in crowded or remote environments.
Beyond internal processing, the physical feedback has been overhauled for better accessibility. The internal speaker is now 50 percent louder, allowing the AirTag to be heard through dense materials like luggage or upholstery from twice the distance of its predecessor. From a sustainability standpoint, the device utilizes 85% recycled plastic and 100 percent recycled gold plating. The new model maintains the original circular form factor, ensuring full compatibility with the existing catalog of FineWoven and leather accessories.
