With a Jordan capsule, full-court murals and a host of basketball-inspired works under her belt, Nina Chanel Abney is no stranger to the court. The Perrotin-backed artist is building on this theme with a new vinyl toy collaboration with Hong Kong-based AllRightsReserved. Drawing inspiration from classic Starting Lineup action figures, Bravo pays homage to the “everyday icon” – the star who never misses at the local rec center or neighborhood court.
Frozen mid-jump shot with a bright orange basketball raised overhead, the figure is rendered through Abney’s graphic, cubist-influence signature, from rose-dotted cheeks and sharp, angular leg bends, to bold blocks of color throughout. Standing at 15 inches tall, the sculpture dons red shorts and white sneakers marked with black X’s, recalling “the cousin, the neighbor, the friend who played like the pros.”

With a signature on foot, the Bravo vinyl figure comes with white gloves, packaged in a custom box wrapped in a pattern of Abney’s illustrated motifs. The limited-edition piece is now available on the artist’s Super Cool Studios website for $350 USD.
