Toyota has unveiled the next-generation RAV4 in Japan, featuring a sharper design, improved performance and first-time integration of its Arene software platform. While the new model comes in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hybrid (HEV) variants, the spotlight is on the new GR SPORT trim — a performance-oriented offering tuned for driving excitement and road confidence. Drawing from Toyota’s motorsports expertise, the GR SPORT receives exclusive suspension tuning, wider tread, aluminum wheels and electric power steering calibrated for agility. It also benefits from aerodynamic upgrades, including functional spoilers and a new front grille, helping it stand out on winding roads and in urban settings.
The GR SPORT joins two other trims: Core and Adventure, with all models showcasing enhanced tech features such as an upgraded multimedia system and Toyota’s latest Safety Sense suite. Inside, the RAV4 offers expanded cargo space, improved visibility and a more driver-focused cockpit with thoughtful layout updates like a reversible console box and simplified shift panel. Underpinning all variants is a newly developed hybrid system that boosts acceleration and efficiency, while the PHEV models offer a 93-mile EV range and rapid DC charging. The updated RAV4 will roll out in Japan by year-end, with a global release to follow; at the time of writing, details on pricing have yet to be announced.
