'A Minecraft Movie' Breaks Box Office Opening Weekend Record With $157 Million USD

A Minecraft Movie has surpassed box office opening weekend numbers with $157 million USD, marking the biggest domestic debut of the year and the best record in the history of video game adaptation films.
The Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment project stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black, and was expected to rake in between $70 and $80 million USD. The final number comes closer to $90 million USD. The international box office saw the film add $144 million USD, giving it a total $301 million USD start globally. Costing $150 million USD to produce, before its global marketing expense, the film is on record to profit.
The video game adaptation also surpasses Universal and Illumination’s 2024 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie which brought in $146 million USD. A Minecraft Movie was based on one of the best-selling video games in history, dominating the box office over the weekend surpassing Jason Statham’s action thriller A Working Man and Disney’ Snow White.
