Wacko Maria x 'Stand By Me' Looks Back on a Cinematic Cult Classic
The Japanese brand revives nostalgic imagery from the 1986 classic starring River Phoenix.
Wacko Maria has unveiled yet another movie-themed collaboration, this time tapping Columbia Pictures to revive the promotional imagery of Stand By Me, an American classic released in 1986. Most notably starring River Phoenix, the film follows the story of four Oregon boys during the wake of a murder in their town.
Departing from its more action-focussed film collaborations like The Dark Knight and Ghost In The Shell, the Stand By Me collection focuses on a more nostalgic and tender film. Camp collar shirts in black and gray are covered in a repeating pattern of the movie’s promotional posters, much like how the brand applied imagery in collaborations with Bob Marley and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The collection also offers a wide range of black and heather gray basics including hoodies, t-shirts, crewnecks, and more printed with movie posters, word marks, and isolated imagery of the cast. To round out the collection, WACKO MARIA offers an embroidered dad cap stitched with the movie’s golden logo.
The Wacko Maria x Stand By Me collection is set for release on Saturday, March 8 at the brand’s web store and directly-managed locations.
