Joe Goldberg claims he is the “luckiest guy in New York” – but for how long?
Netflix has unveiled a chilling new teaser for the fifth and final season of You, with Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg returning to where it all began: New York City. This season brings Joe’s twisted journey full circle as he seeks to secure his “happily ever after.”
In the teaser, Joe declares, “Unlucky in life and in love until I met you.” The “you” he refers to is Kate Galvin (Charlotte Ritchie), his partner introduced in Season 4. The clip ends ominously with Joe proclaiming, “Who knew I’d become the luckiest guy in New York?”
Season 5 follows Joe as he navigates his new life with Kate while trying to escape the ghosts of his past. As fans of the psychological thriller know, his story has been one of obsession, deceit and murder — and it seems his past sins are finally catching up to him.
Returning to New York City is particularly significant, as it was where Joe’s reign of terror first began in Season 1 with his fixation on Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Now, with Kate by his side and his identity more precarious than ever, the question remains: Can Joe maintain his facade, or will his past finally destroy him?
Alongside Badgley and Ritchie, Season 5 boasts an impressive cast, including Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews, adding new layers of intrigue to the story.
