Nightmares On Wax Taps Nicholas Daley For New Mixtape Merch

Warp Records longest serving artist George Evelyn – AKA Nightmares On Wax – dropped a new mixtape this month called ‘Echo45 Sound System’. The 13 tracks merge soul, roots, hip-hop, dub, and electronic textures and are flavoured with several strong collaborations from the likes of Yasiin Bey, Greentea Peng, Sadie Walker, and Liam Bailey. Additionally, the sound system culture legend also tapped fashion designer Nicholas Daley to help co-create a merch-line for the tape release.
A standout track is “Bang Bien” – a collaboration with Yasiin Bey that presents a fusion of futuristic beatwork and social commentary. Other tracks present a “genre-fluid journey that sways between deep grooves, conscious lyricism, and ethereal production,” according to the Press Release. For instance, “Dive Into with Louis VI simmers with jazzy ease, while Desire blends the timeless soul of Liam Bailey and Haile Supreme into a nostalgic slow burn.”
A unique standout of this release is the input from Nicholas Daley. The London designer was responsible for the creative direction of the entire project from styling and photography to designing the merchandise line. Both the “Desert Dust” tee and “Black” hoodie feature unique double sided screen prints inspired by soundsystem culture. And, also part of the merch line, there is a special Vinyl 2×LP, Limited Gold Coloured Vinly – that’ll be out on December 12.
