Louis Poulsen has announced the release of the Rumee Portable Lamp, designed by Gabriel Tan, the brand’s inaugural Designer of the Year 2025. The new product embodies Louis Poulsen’s philosophy of “Design to Shape Light,” uniting sculptural form with functional versatility. Drawing on both Asian and European influences, Tan has created a piece that is as emotionally engaging as it is practical.
With Rumee, Gabriel Tan presents a portable light that bridges utility, emotion, and design heritage — an object that feels both timeless and distinctly contemporary. Its form takes inspiration from the natural world, with a broad, wavy silhouette reminiscent of a wide-brimmed hat. The name itself references both the Danish word rum (meaning “room”) and the idea of a “roommate,” underscoring its role as a companionable light source.
Designed for portability, the lamp is comfortable to hold and easy to carry, while its tilted head provides a diagonal, downward-facing beam ideal for reading. At the same time, it emits a soft 360-degree ambient glow, enhanced by a built-in diffuser that ensures glare-free illumination.
