Summary

  • Cam’ron is suing J. Cole over their 2024 collaboration “Ready ‘24,” alleging a breach of contract and lack of compensation
  • The original verbal agreement required J. Cole to provide a verse for a future track or appear on Cam’ron’s It Is What It Is podcast, which Cam’ron claims Cole failed to do
  • Cam’ron, who is only credited as a co-author and not on the recording, is seeking at least $500,000 USD in earnings and co-author status on the sound recording

Cam’ron is suing J. Cole over their 2024 collaboration “Ready ‘24,” alleging that he was not compensated and that the latter did not hold up his end of the bargain following the recording and release of their track.

In court documents obtained by Music Business Worldwide, Cam’ron states that he wrote his lyrics and delivered vocals for “Ready ‘24” in exchange for a J. Cole verse. Since a new collab did not materialize, Cam’ron instead told Cole to appear on his podcast It Is What It Is. The latter supposedly agreed for an episode on a later date, but then stated that he was unavailable. “Ready ‘24” dropped in April 2024 as part of Cole’s Might Delete Later.

Cam’ron further alleges that he did not receive compensation for “Ready ‘24,” and is only listed as a co-author on the composition but not on the actual recording.

The New York rapper claims that he’s owed at least $500,000 USD and is demanding an accounting from Universal Music Group (UMG), a co-defendant. He is now asking the court to name him as a co-author on the recording, his “proportionate share” from the earnings of the track and any court and attorney fees.
