Ultra-Rare Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight Surfaces for Auction
One of Only 19 models made in the right-hand drive configuration.
An ultra-rare example of the 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight is set to be auctioned, one of only 86 ever produced and one of just 19 made in right-hand drive configuration. This specific example has notably been kept from public view since its original delivery, making it a highly coveted find for collectors. Originally built for the South African market, the car was kept in storage by a private collector in Asia and has seen less than 81 miles since new.
Developed by Porsche Exclusive department manager Rolf Sprenger, the 911 Turbo S Lightweight was designed to be a road-legal version of the car that won the 1992 IMSA Supercar Championship. To shed weight, Porsche removed comfort features like air conditioning and sound-deadening materials, though buyers could opt to have some features added back. Key modifications included glass fiber-reinforced carbon composite doors and trunk lids, lighter windows and a powerful 381 hp engine equipped with larger fuel injectors and a KKK turbocharger.
This particular 911 Turbo S Lightweight, finished in Grand Prix White, was recently refurbished after decades in storage, including a full repaint by experts in Southern California. With its rare right-hand drive configuration and remarkable condition, the car is estimated to fetch as much as $1,200,000 USD during RM Sotheby’s upcoming London sale.
