The Mars Pro 2 is the World’s First Google TV-Powered 4K Laser Projector
If you can’t decide what size TV to get, this projector might be for you.
While Dangbei is a relative newcomer in the world of tech, the brand has received multiple design accolades for its products including both the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award. And, now, Dangbei has launched what it claims to be “the world’s first Google TV 4K laser projector” with Netflix – the Mars Pro 2.
Like LED or OLED when deciding between TVs, consumers typically have two main choices when it comes to projectors: LED or Laser. The Mars Pro 2 is a 4K UHD laser projector that packs a super-bright 2,450 ISO lumens, making it effective to use any of the day (both in bright daylight or darker evening settings). The laser technology Dangbei has opted for is known as advanced laser phosphor display (ALPD) and amongst its benefits are better power efficiency when compared to LED or lamp projectors, higher brightness, and a wider color gamut. The ALPD technology in the Mars Pro 2 also helps to deliver a speckle-free experience – a grainy shimmering effect seen with some traditional projectors – with deeper, more life-like colors, as well as eliminating color fringing entirely.
The Mars Pro 2 is also quite the versatile machine. Along with its 4K capabilities, it supports both HDR10+ and HLG, as well as being able to play 3D content in full HD (including 3D Blu-Ray), providing users with several options when it comes to the kind of video content played through it. When it comes to sound, the Mars Pro 2 is fully compatible with Dolby Audio and DTS:X, and features built-in dual 12W speakers that deliver decent audio for their size. Indeed, connecting the projector to an external audio source – such as a home theatre set up – for even better sound is an option, too, one made possible thanks to the projector’s HDMI eARC and S/PDIF connectivity.
One of the key selling points of this projector is its user experience and the Mars Pro 2 is powered by Google TV – the same operating system found in many popular TVs, including those by Sony. Dangbei’s aforementioned claim – that the Mars Pro 2 is the world’s first laser projector that both runs Google TV and is officially licensed by Netflix – has resulted in a really smooth and fluid in-use experience, and, because the device uses Google TV, all of the other popular applications such as YouTube, Prime Video, and Disney+ are available to download on the Mars Pro 2. Best of all, if you’re lucky enough to have the space, the Mars Pro 2 can project your favorite shows in a huge, cinema-like 200” image (with the smallest projection size being 40”) – it’s worth noting, though, that the brand recommends 80” to 120” as the ideal sweet spot for the clearest image.
The Mars Pro 2 has connectivity options aplenty and is capable of being connected to everything from games consoles to computers – essentially, anything that uses an HDMI connection. The device uses HDMI 2.1, the faster and more modern version of the connectivity standard that’s found in current generation games consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. While it’s possible to play these consoles on the Mars Pro 2, there is a small but inherent and unavoidable input lag between the controller and the projection – it’s relatively minor, but if you’re thinking of playing games like Call of Duty and you’re quite competitive, you’ll find you have a tiny disadvantage owing to the delay between what you press and what you see (there is a low latency gaming mode option that addresses this issue specifically) . For less competitive gaming, the experience provided by the Mars Pro 2 is as close to outer-worldly as it comes. Other connection options found on the projector include dual USB slots, LAN, 3.5mm for audio, as well having a super fast Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
If you can’t decide which size TV to buy, this projector might just be for you. The Mars Pro 2 is a truly modern projector constructed with glass and aluminum that will sit nicely in any set up, using less than 30% of the power a traditional lamp projector uses and featuring a laser with a 30,000-hour lifespan.
The Mars Pro 2 is available now via Dangbei’s website priced at $1,899 USD. An optional gimbal stand is available to purchase separately.
