Shinola Adds the Elijah McCoy Pocket Watch to Its Great Americans Series
A limited-edition of 350 pieces.
Shinola is gearing to expand on its Great Americans series with the limited-edition Elijah McCoy Pocket Watch.
A tribute to Elijah McCoy, one of the first African-American inventors who was known for inventing the lubrication systems for steam engines in the late 1800s. The limited pocket watch runs on a manual-winding SW210-1 movement, viewable through the open caseback and inscribed with “THE REAL McCOY” in a gold hue, nodding to the idiom that was first popularized after McCoy invented the oil-drip cup.
On the 45mm pocket watch face, the design draws cues from the classic locomotives that McCoy invented. The dial comes in a matte black, decorated with gold-colored numerals, logos and lume-filled hands. Touches of red are also incorporated in the form of the central seconds hand as well as seconds marking.
Launching on May 23, the Elijah McCoy Pocket Watch is limited to a production of 350 examples. Retailing for $1,750 USD, the piece will be available to shop on Shinola’s website.
