In the heart of West Village, Postcard Bakery by the team behind Nami Nori, emerges as a design gem crafted by New York-based Sarah Carpenter & Studio. This 300 square feet space transcends the ordinary, drawing inspiration from the whimsical elegance of Japanese vintage postcards and the artistic flourish of the Taisho era. The studio’s design philosophy has infused Postcard Bakery with a unique blend of retro charm and modern vibrancy, creating an intimate and cozy setting that captivates the senses.

The studio’s vision has led to the creation of an interior that balances decadence and vibrancy with pastel tones and intricate patterns. Crafting an environment that is both inviting and evocative, the centerpieces are an oversized curved glass and mirrored metal display case. Not only do they highlight the culinary offerings but they also serve as bold statement pieces, contrasting dramatically with the dynamic vermilion enveloping the service area’s surfaces.

Soft, quilted banquettes in the seating area offer a counterpoint to the vivid exterior, with muted shades of peach and yellow creating a soothing retreat. Custom oak millwork frames the patterned walls, inspired by the botanical and geometric motifs of Yumeji Takehisa, enhances the space’s connection to its historical muse. A unique collaboration with LMNOP for the bakery’s graphic identity introduced a custom lime green wallcovering, adding a contemporary twist to the nostalgic theme.

Take a look around the bakery in the gallery above.
