French Streetwear Label Pas Une Marque Cultivates a Dystopian World for SS24
The Parisian brand’s “Threads of Dissonance” collection weaves together unexpected textures and silhouettes.
“Threads of Dissonance,” Pas Une Marque’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, was inspired by an assemblage of creative works, all centered on themes of adversity and resilience. From Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World to the action franchise Mad Max, the garments are influenced by a certain championing of individuality, even among an apocalyptic-seeming sense of chaos.
Rust-dyed trousers are paired with a matching rust-dyed trench coat, which in an unexpected twist, is constructed out of a distressed flocking. The print was made by soaking rusted metal in vinegar to create a unique pattern to print on the garments. Distressing is a fitting technique for a dystopian-centric collection and one that appears throughout the pieces. A double paneled jean is completely distressed but doesn’t actually contain any holes, rather opting for a fuzzy effect.
The namesake “Threads of Dissonance” denim jacket and matching trouser feature a baggy fit with an embossed look. Similar to the jeans, the pants favor a looser fit and come with pointed ogive pockets.
A highlight of the collection is the semi-distressed blazer and trouser set, drawing to mind Max’s MFP uniform. Both the blazer and pants are constructed out of distressed gray and black panels that are part denim and part merino wool.
While distressing leads the collection, Pas Une Marque also employed embroidery, crocheting, silk screen printing and other techniques to bring the looks together. The French luxury brand also collaborated with the surrealist artist Lennin Vásquez to develop some of the fabrics that appear throughout “Threads of Dissonance.”
