London-based designer Edward Crutchley has always been one for spectacles, often gracing his home grounds with paraded displays that deserve a second look. Crutchley’s otherworldly universe expands beyond imagination, opening the first day of London Fashion Week with an unmissable Fall/Winter 2024 collection.

The designer’s intimate runway show saw guests flood the capital’s Barbican neighborhood, opening the golden gates of the historic Ironmongers’ Hall. Show-goers were led upstairs and guided by ancient portraits of iconic British figures, sitting in slim rows where models would maneuver down the runway.

The two-time Woolmark Prize winner’s FW24 offering traversed time and space, inflating his whimsical design language through renewed tapestry techniques. He recalled ancient Greece and Egypt, honoring 4th-century gods with circular portraits, geometric graphics, and artisanal craftsmanship. The collection is bold and unafraid, grounding itself in broad shoulders that distort the natural human form. Angelic dresses with AI-made spiraled embroidery began the occasion accessorized with minuscule sunglasses, followed by animalistic coats worn by defiant cowboys. Cropped bomber jackets and swollen coats reinterpreted wardrobe staples with a sense of newness, while emperors and lions appeared on tailored masterpieces. Cowboys turned to bondage to complete the collection, working next to damsels smoking cigarettes in distress.
