Helly Hansen Enlists DESCENDANT for a “FIBERPILE” Capsule Collection
Imbued with designed cues borrowed from Serape blankets.

Norwegian techwear specialist, Helly Hansen has linked up with Toru Nishiyama’s DESCENDANT for a collaborative capsule collection. Titled “FIBERPILE® COLLECTION,” the capsule features a versatile lineup designed to transition from everyday urban life to outdoor adventures.
From hooded jackets, a scarf, mittens to an ear flap cap, the lineup is crafted from Helly Hansen FIBERPILE® fabric, which was originally developed for sailors and fishermen to wear during harsh Norwegian winters. Throughout the collection, aesthetic cues from Mexican Serape blankets are incorporated, which is also a design element that resonates with DESCENDANT.
The collection also highlights the importance of understanding and mastering the use of an object to truly appreciate its value. An example given by Nishiyama is the use of a fly fishing chest pack to store his children’s belongings when they go skiing, illustrating how a tool can become more personal and essential through practical application. This philosophy underscores the entire collection, encouraging users to explore the versatility of each piece.
Preview the lineup in the gallery above. Prices range from ¥8,000 – ¥36,000 JPY (approx. $52 – $234 USD), the “FIBERPILE® COLLECTION” will be officially released on December 20 via DESCENDANT’s webstore.
