Friday Night Lights, the fan-favorite, nostalgic football show from the 2000s is officially getting a reboot at Peacock.

Currently under development at NBCUniversal, the official logline for the new series reads, “Following a devastating hurricane, a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship becoming a beacon of light for their town.” The new series will see the return of Jason Katims, who was the original series’ showrunner and executive producer. The original director and executive producer Peter Berg is also returning alongside original executive producer Brian Grazer.

Friday Night Lights first aired in 2006 and went on for five seasons. The series was inspired by the 1990 novel of the same name by H. G. Bissinger. The novel was adapted into a film first in 2004 starring Billy Bob Thornton. The original series saw Kyle Chandler play coach Eric Taylor as he navigates as a high school football coach in a fictional town of Dillon, Texas. He starred alongside Connie Britton, Taylor Kitsch, Minka Kelly, Zach Gilford, Jesse Plemons, Michael B. Jordan and Jurnee Smollett. It is uncertain if any of the original cast members will be signing on. The show received 14 Emmy nominations in its run and Chandler won best actor in a drama in 2011 and Katims won for best writing in the same year. Stay tuned for more information.
