Harrods Becomes a One-Stop-Shop for All Things Loro Piana This Winter

As winter draws closer, Harrods’ famous holiday displays, decor, and shelves of never-ending gifts make a grand return. This year, however, the British department store subverts from tradition as luxury label Loro Piana decks out the space for its 100th-anniversary celebrations.

Heralded as “Workshop of Wonders,” the full-scale takeover spans the outside of the building as well as areas inside including special pop-ups and new boutiques. In the spirit of its centenary, decorations and sparkling displays are designed to illuminate its heritage in craftsmanship by tracing the life of its garments and accessories in festively attuned style. On show until January 2, Hypebeast joined holiday shoppers to check out the takeover at Harrods.

Beginning at the recognizable Brompton Road facade, installations of fiber bales can be seen circling around a glowing Christmas tree. Underneath, a row of 36 windows shares a glimpse into different elements of its material production – focusing on Vicuña sourced from South America, Merino wool from Australia and New Zealand, Cashmere from Mongolia, and Pecora Nera® from New Zealand – with garments and special ornaments made up of the respective fiber. Routing back to Italy, the central window is reserved for a display of its factory and a rotating globe that ties everything together.

Flowing from the outside in, the storytelling continues at the brand’s “Door 6” and “Door 9” pop-ups hosted on the ground floor. The first dedicates itself to luxurious woolen goods – from alpaca figurines to hats and scarves, with the Grande Unita Scarf available for in-store monogramming. Meanwhile, “Door 9” comes stacked with artisanal ornaments, creating a go-to destination for fine holiday accessories. Until late December, the department store will be hosting workshops for visitors to try their hand at making cashmere festive decorations.

Set to stay in Harrods after the holiday takeover are two new Loro Piana boutiques; one for kids and another for home collection. A collection of Loro Piana products specially developed for the store will also continue to be stocked into the new year as a symbol of the brand’s ongoing partnership.
