Richard Mille Unveils Colored Ceramics RM 07-01 Automatic Collection
Available in three summer-inspired colors, including blush pink, lavender and powder blue.
Richard Mille aims to keep the summer vibes going with its latest “Colored Ceramics” collection, featuring three examples of the RM 07-01. This collection showcases a fusion of contrasting colors, shapes, and materials — designed to make a playful yet bold statement.
Notably, the RM 07-01 collection draws its essence from the whimsical Memphis Design movement of 1980s Italy while staying rooted in the performance-driven and innovative nature of Richard Mille. The result is a range of technical timepieces that carry with them beach vibes, as well as the essence of idle summer days and nights.
Cécile Guenat, Creative and Development Director at Richard Mille, shared her fascination with Memphis design, praising its “diversity and freedom,” she added that “Its creators’ goal at the time was to escape the strictures of modernist aesthetics. At the heart of the design process for this collection was the idea of juxtaposing colors in materials like ceramic and patterned rubber. Then the technical team enriched their work by weaving in the ancient craft of guilloché for the dial. This creates a symbiosis of the ultra-modern and the traditional in watchmaking.”
The three summer-inspired ceramic colors include blush pink, lavender, and powder blue, chosen to elegantly contrast with the other hues adorning the watches. The Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (TZP) ceramic, known for its lightness, strength and color retention, is used for the bezels and casebacks of all three watches, ensuring the hue remains vibrant over time. A special sintering process lends a desirable matte effect to the ceramic.
These ceramic bezels are then fixed to white gold micro-blasted casebands with polished pillars, safeguarding the calibre CRMA2, an automatic winding in-house movement made from skeletonized, microblasted, and electroplasma treated grade 5 titanium. The movement showcases a variable-inertia balance for enduring performance and a rotor in 5N 18K red gold with variable geometry, adapting the winding to the wearer’s movements.
The dials of these latest RM07-01 examples feature a guilloché touch, an art demanding expert hands and specialized machines. Rather than traditional patterns, the motifs are inspired by the aforementioned Memphis Design and Richard Mille’s universe, engraved on a white gold segment surrounded by ceramic, colored rubber appliques and diamond-set elements.
