The Noguchi Museum Shop in Long Island City, New York is set to reveal six rare Akari light sculptures. Although it’s been over 70 years since Isamu Noguchi first introduced his mulberry bark paper light fixtures, the pieces are still ever popular.

Making way for sale in North America for the first time in decades, the rare models were designed by Noguchi in the early 1950s. The Akari sculptures are tabletop sizes and are comprised of lacquered bamboo collars. Furthering elevating the pieces are colorful, abstract silk-screened patterns that adorn five of the pieces. Additionally, the lights were produced by the original manufacturer Ozeki & Co., Ltd. in Gifu, Japan.

To reveal the pieces, a presentation in the Museum Shop will be held to allow public view and purchase before the lights go on sale online. Coinciding with NYC Design Week, the rare Akari light sculptures will be available from Wednesday, May 17 – Sunday, May 28.

Check out the lights in the gallery above.
