URWERK Nods to Its Beginnings With Limited-Edition UR-102 “Reloaded” Watch Set
Only 25 sets are made.
The UR-102 “Reloaded” timepieces are perhaps one of the most hyped collections from Swiss independent watchmaker, URWERK.
In homage to the Maison’s beginnings, the watches are presented in their iconic round case and a neo-futuristic dial design. The most distinctive feature of the UR-102 is the arched window on the face of the watch, which displays the time while also being devoid of hands. Co-founder Martin Frei explains that the design concept “featured a time indicator that looked like a celestial body,“ which is also evident in details like the larger lugs that nod to the angular attachments on the Sputnik space satellite.
In comparison to the 38mm size that was elected by the 1997 original model, the new UR-102 now arrives in a bigger 41mm case size. For this change, Frei elaborates on the decision, “The migration of the crown led to a change in the opening for reading the time. No longer a perfect semi-circle, this ‘window’ is wider with sloping edges, giving it a fresher, more dynamic look.” As a result, the crown is now more seamlessly merged into the case at the 4 o’clock mark. In addition, its integrated wandering hour system in the form of the self-winding 2.02 calibre is also considered an emblematic facet of the model.
Limited to 25- pieces, the UR-102 “Reloaded” comes in a box set containing a titanium version with a white woven band, and a signature all-black version. Later on this year, 75 pieces will also be available for individual purchase per color option. Retailing for CHF 56,000 (approximately $60,850 USD), head to URWERK’s official website for more information on its availability.
Elsewhere in watches, the Ressence Type 8 S surfaces in Sage Green.
