Seiko Celebrates 55 Years of the Seiko 5 Sports With the ‘Customise’ Limited-Edition Collection
Only 1,968 pieces are made per colorway.
In celebrating its 55th anniversary of the Seiko 5 Sports watch, the watch brand has unveiled four ‘Customise’ limited-edition watches in homage to the vintage model.
Each piece from the Seiko 5 Sports ‘Customise’ Limited Edition collection is designed by fans who entered the ‘Customise’ contest. For the contest, fans were given the liberty to create their own versions of the Seiko 5 Sports watch while referencing elements from the original 1968 model. The final four were chosen based on the number of votes they received, with each representing a different region or country, ranging from European, the Americas, Japan, and Asia.
The European design edition can be distinguished by its bold and bright orange dial with a sporty bezel design. Meanwhile, the Americas design edition takes on a more classic approach with a black dial, a monochromatic bezel, with gold-colored accented indices. On the other hand, the Japan design timepiece takes on a more minimal outlook, as the entire dial and bezel are doused completely in a silver hue, while Arabic numbers are omitted from the bezel.
As for the Asia design edition, the piece comes in a head-to-toe copper color with a gold-plated stainless steel case. To complement the opulent look, the bezel comes in a burgundy color with contrasting white indicators and numbers. The indices are also accented with the same copperish hue, while the hour, minute, and second hands come with silver accents.
Each variation will release as a 1,968-piece limited edition, boasting a 42.5mm case size and equipped with Seiko’s 4R36 automatic and manual winding calibre. Launching in March with prices ranging from £270-£340 (approximately $325 – $410 USD), the watches are now available for pre-ordering via Seiko’s official website and select boutiques.
