Netflix Is Producing a 'Drive to Survive'-Type Docuseries With La Liga Next Season
Expected to hit the screens at the end of 2024.
La Liga, Spain’s top-flight football league, has agreed on terms with Netflix to become the first major European league to film a long-form documentary series.
The new series coming to La Liga is tipped to follow the same structure as Formula 1’s Drive to Survive, the PGA Tour’s Full Swing, and the ATP/WTA’s Break Point. With this being said, the new La Liga series will follow the stories and rivalries from all of the division’s clubs during the 2023/24 season.
An early look at the documentary series is expected to be teased during the new FIFA documentary coming to Netflix in the coming weeks. This show will be telling the story of the 2022 World Cup whilst also including access from every team that competed in Qatar — meaning exclusive, BTS content will be seen from Lionel Messi’s iconic, final competitive international game where the sporting legend picked up the prestigious trophy.
Additionally, because this new La Liga series has been signed directly with La Liga — rather than an individual club — the show will give an overall view of all the major teams and players in a single competitive season. This gives the series a new, revitalized feel, as streaming platforms tend to work with one specific club — seen previously with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur during Amazon’s All or Nothing.
What’s more, is that this latest move from La Liga follows the league’s recently-signed partnership with the UFC, with the duo now working together to cross-promote their competitions.
The new La Liga series from Netflix is already in pre-production and fans can expect to see it hit the screens at the end of 2024.
