Anicorn and SEGA have partnered to bring new life to the legendary SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis console, reimagined as a limited-edition watch, with three regionally exclusive iterations. The collaboration taps into the essence of the console that redefined the gaming landscape in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Making its debut in 1988, the SEGA Mega Drive, known as the Genesis in the United States, quickly ascended to global acclaim — eclipsing rivals by 1992 as the world’s top-selling gaming console. Its design and compelling game library, featuring classics like Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage, marked a new era for home gaming.
Tapping into this design, the limited edition timepieces feature sleek curves, inspired by 1980s hi-fi systems and sports cars, blending vintage gaming charm with modern horology. The case and top cover draw direct inspiration from the console’s retro look, offering a tangible piece of nostalgia. Additionally, the watches feature a retro pixel font, reminiscent of 16-bit graphics, creating a visual homage to the classic gaming era.
The premium leather strap and the exhibition case back of the watches proudly display the SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis logo, symbolizing the console’s enduring legacy in the gaming world. Each watch also comes in special packaging that is reminiscent of a console box, accompanied by a metal numbered plate and booklet that celebrates the console’s legacy.
Iterations of the watch include a U.S.-exclusive, Japan-exclusive and EU-exclusive, each representative of the consoles that were originally released in their respective regions and each priced at $800 USD.
