America Is One Big Battleground in Trailer for A24's 'Civil War'
The dystopian flick paints a bleak picture of the country’s future.
The first trailer for A24’s Civil War, a dystopian thriller set in near-future America, written and directed by Alex Garland. 19 states have succeeded from the country and the state of the current government is in peril. While the political landscape is murky, there’s word of the “Western Forces” of California and Texas and something called the “Florida Alliance.”
Kirsten Dunst stars as a journalist on a journey to make her way into the US capital amid the chaos. Wagner Moura and Cailee Spaeny also play journalists working on the story.
Nick Offerman appears as the president, who assures the public that “the uprising will be dealt with swiftly.” Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jesse Plemons and Sonoya Mizuno round out the main cast.
“There’s been a misunderstanding. We are American,” Moura tells an armed Plemons, to which he replies, “ok, what kind of American are you?”
