Here’s What Went Down at This Year's NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 Presented by ADQ

The NBA made its return to Abu Dhabi for this year’s games, presented by ADQ as part of the league’s existing collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi. Held at Etihad Arena on Yas Island from October 5 – 7, the event hosted two preseason games that saw the Minnesota Timberwolves claim back-to-back victories against the Dallas Mavericks as well as a range of exciting basketball activations throughout the week.

This year’s festivities also saw the debut of the “NBA Fan Appreciation Night” which featured performances from T-Pain and guest appearances from Michael B. Jordan, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Brazilian football legend Ronaldo, and many more. As well as a showcase of acrobatic dunkers and a rapid rhythmic show for live painter David Garibaldi, the evening saw Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean pitted against the Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving in an amusing three-point contest.

Over at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the four-day immersive fan event “NBA District” returned, offering a range of interactive activities for basketball enthusiasts to take part in. From on-site sneaker customizations to basketball shootouts, the event brought together fans of all ages to the grand venue. The NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi also unveiled a unique floating court installation on Yas Bay which hosted clinics, shooting competitions, basketball legend meet-and-greets, and other activations over the week.

Continuing its mission to inspire the next generation of basketball stars in the region, the league held a series of development and social impact programming that reached more than 2,500 youth and 250 coaches from across the Middle East, including the return of Jr. NBA Week to Abu Dhabi.
