Pop-Tarts, along with Hypebeast, brought its most popular flavors to life at Los Angeles’ The Berrics for a Crazy Good Skate Jam event earlier this month. The skate contest and fun-filled social gathering also introduced Pop Tarts’ collaboration with skateboard brand Proper Gnar, which consisted of decks, accessories and apparel. Proper Gnar’s founder, designer and skater Latosha Stone, not only had her vibrant Pop-Tarts inspired products on display, but also her artwork laid out around the famed skate park.

Crazy Good Skate Jam was a contest to remember with riders going up against eye-popping obstacles like the Frosted Strawberry boxes, Wild Berry ramp, Frosted Cherry inspired wall and other custom foil-wrapped fixtures. There were two preliminary skate competitions and both were hosted by notable skater, cinematographer, editor and actor, Erik Bragg. Skaters who passed the first set of challenges competed in a final round where they had the chance to win a $1000 USD prize and a complete set of the Pop-Tarts x Proper Gnar merchandise.

Renowned skateboarders like Ryan Carrell, Eunice Chang and Theotis Beasley were in attendance and watched from the bleachers during a suspenseful game of S.K.A.T.E. Ultimately, it was 12-year-old pro skater Julian Agliardi from Long Beach who took the overall top prize. He was presented with a giant prize check which was nearly as tall as him and he also went home with the entire Pop-Tarts x Proper Gnar collection. Other guests in the venue won the flavor-themed products through raffle contests.

The Pop-Tarts x Proper Gnar Merchandise was exhibited against a blue and pink wall at the back of The Berrics. Proper Gnar’s Latosha Stone, who is the first black female skateboard company founder, brought her iconic manicured hand artwork to the Pop-Tarts inspired displays. Guests also had the chance to refuel at food sampling stations that offered Pop-Tarts flavors like the Eggo ® Frosted Maple Flavor, Frosted Grape and Frosted Confetti Cupcake.

Designed by Stone, each piece of merchandise had a creative twist on Pop-Tarts elements — hand-drawn characters, galaxy art and colors inspired by the toaster pastries’ flavors gave the entire theme a psychedelic update. “I’m glad that The Berrics gave me this opportunity to have something like this and to bring girls out, and to shine a light on the different types of skaters there are,” says Stone. Attendees gravitated towards Stone’s anime-style Frosted Cherry hats but she also noted also noted that her favorite skate fixture was the Frosted Wild Berry ramp.
