Marc Newson Takes Over Gagosian Shop in London
Get your hands on both old icons and new pieces.

Gagosian gallery’s London store has been filled with pieces designed by designer Marc Newson, who is taking over the space for the duration of the summer. Inside the Burlington Arcade shop, items on sale will range from large-scale furniture to small accessories.
Newson, who famously served on the Apple design team alongside friend Jony Ive, is behind some of the world’s most iconic designs. Together with the Gagosian, he has exhibited pieces that continuously blur the boundary between art and design – from his Cloisonné furniture series, which makes use of the ancient Chinese technique of inlaying enamel into dainty patterns on metal, to aluminium surfboards inspired by his Australian upbringing.
From big to small – there will also be a series of iPhone cases from the designer’s collaboration with Chaos Club for sale. The Marc Newson × Chaos collection is inspired by Newson’s enamelling techniques and features motifs such as his signature amoebic “orgone” pattern. Other recognisable pieces presented include his Cast Glass chairs, made in the Czech Republic, and a table from the Murrina series.
Gagosian was also keen to highlight Newson’s longstanding friendship with the late designer Azzedine Alaïa, and throughout the exhibition, the shop will present dresses by his fashion house, which had been inspired by Picasso’s Tanagra ceramics. Marc Newson’s Gagosian Shop takeover opens today and remains in situ until September 10.
In other design news, a new addition has joined the cluster of experimental buildings in London’s Design District, complete with a facade clad in colour-shifting shades and a structure made from cross-laminated timber.
