Aries Introduces Five Characters for SS23 Collection
Inspired by the cult ’70s film ‘Taking Off.’

London-based label Aries has given a first look at its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, taking influence from the cult 1971 film Taking Off by Miloš Forman. The characters of the film are recontextualized through the Aries lens, with five archetypes — the Camden Punk, ’90s Casual, Teenage Romantic, Cultist and Trust Fund Baby — that run throughout the collection.
The Camden Punk character features denim in skate shapes and treatments including acid wash and dirty peach overdye. Elsewhere, this archetype features cotton twill cargo styles, the crackle camo print and mesh moto tops alongside tattoo-inspired graphics and imagery of a Rottweiler. Other characters include the Teenage Romantic — mixing references to high school jocks and prom queens — and the ’90s casual, who wears a workwear silhouette with military surplus-style shirting and a “No Problemo” graphic.
The final two characters in the SS23 collection are the Cultist and the Trust Fund Baby, with the former wearing references to Ozzy Osbourne alongside classical and religious allusions. For the Trust Fund Baby, Aries focuses on refined tailoring, stretch lace in acid colors and unisex silk pyjamas that have been given an aged effect. Rounding out the Trust Fund Baby are a range of pieces that sport bootlegs of famed luxury logos.
