Jekeun SS22 Showcases the Visceral Vibrancy of Being a Wallflower
Featuring manipulated silhouettes and re-interpreted tailoring.
Emerging London-based label Jekeun is working to analyze the inner psychology of fashion and agency. Founded by Jekeun Cho, the designer was born in South Korea with Japanese heritage and studied law in China before moving to London to focus on fashion. By incorporating fundamental aspects of order and multicultural creativity, the designer’s label is rooted in expanding one’s view.
Jekeun’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection titled “Layers of Wallflower” expands the brand’s stylistic focus on manipulated silhouettes and re-interpreting conventional tailoring. Bold shades of tangerine, pistachio, coral, cobalt blue, amber, lavender and more flow throughout the collection from reconstructed blazers to pants. Tailored pieces like blazers are crafted in reverse constructions in plaid and solid-color armless asymmetrical configurations.
Just like the collection title, layering is a focal design technique in the collection showcased by cropped geometric tops over silk shirts and pairing elongated blazers with shorts. A highlight of the collection is a parakeet green knee-length tailored shirt with a multicolored graphic centerpiece. What also stands out about the emerging label is its focus on connecting mental wellbeing and fashion. Although eye-catching and full of many facets, Jekeun’s collection seeks to showcase how clothes empower people to exhibit their truest selves without fear of judgment.
