Alain Silberstein x Ressence Collaborate on Grail Watch 1
Memento Mori watches are rarely this cheerful.
Ressence and famed designer Alain Silberstein have created the first collaborative watch for Grail Watch, a new venture from Revolution founder Wei Koh.
Grail Watch 1: Ressence x Alain Silberstein “Carpe Diem” brings together the innovative Belgian watch brand’s hand-free concept with Silberstein’s signature use of bright primary colors.
Silberstein sought to comment on “the ephemeral nature of life and the fragility of material possessions,” with his own take on the Memento Mori watch, which remind the wearer of their own mortality. His use of a tulip and skull is a direct reference to Philippe de Champaigne’s 1646 “Vanitas”, which communicated the same message.
Grail Watch 1 is housed in a 41.5mm Ressence Type 1 Slim automatic with 36 hours power reserve. The primary dial indicates minutes, while the ‘tulip’ dial indicates hours. The skull serves as a running seconds.
The 36-piece limited edition Grail Watch 1: Ressence x Alain Silberstein “Carpe Diem”, drops via Grail Watch on May 1 at 10am ET, priced $24,300 USD.
