McDonald's Japan Rolls Out New Hitokuchi Churros
Bite-size snacks filled with molten chocolate.
Following a sweet addition of the Triangle Oreo Cream Pie, McDonald’s Japan is adding Hitokuchi Churros to the menu. The Japan branches are known for serving up fun new items giving a spin on signature menu dishes or just simply concocting out-of-the-box creations.
The fast-food chain initially teased the latest dessert on Twitter by asking fans to guess what the mysterious four circles represent. On the next day, the Golden Arches announced the launch of churros which in Japanese katakana script is written as チューロス — previously hidden by the four churro silhouettes in the first tweet.
Standard churros usually come out as a stick with a side of chocolate dipping sauce. However, McDonald’s chose to go for the molten chocolate-filled variation in bite-size form also called “Hitokuchi.” Four mini churros are included in one order.
The Hitokuchi Churros go for ¥240 JPY (approximately $2.10 USD) with the option of sharing, but the company indicates that customers might not want to after having one bite.
