Matt Copson’s Arnold & Son Spiderweb Watch Is up for Auction at Phillips New York TimeForArt
With an estimated price of $8,000 – $16,000 USD.

Arnold & Son has commissioned British artist Matt Copson for a luminous spiderweb-inspired timepiece that will be sold at the Phillips New York’s TimeForArt auction later this week. With every bespoke artist timepiece sold at the biennial TimeForArt auction, all the proceeds will benefit the namesake non-profit art institution committed to promoting and supporting forward-thinking contemporary artists.
Arnold & Son gave Matt Copson absolute creative freedom for this project, the resulting timepiece is an amalgamation of contemporary art and horology. Boasting a 40mm stainless steel case, the dial is adorned with a huge metallic spiderweb motif against a white face. The playful design also features a spider as the hour hand, while the minute hand is a fly, to create a perpetual game of chase that corresponds to the cartoonish yet dark themes in Copson’s portfolio. In the dark, the watch is enlivened in luminous green, echoing the artist’s regular practice of implementing lasers and lights into his works. Arriving in a leather travel pouch and a wooden watch case designed by Copson, an Arnold & Son Certificate of Guarantee will also be enclosed.
The timepiece has an estimated price of $8,000 – $16,000 USD and will be offered by live auction on December 11 at the Philips New York headquarters at 432 Park Avenue. For more information, head to Phillips’ website.
