Tom Sachs’s rocket-inspired exhibition Spaceships is currently approaching its final days at Acquavella Galleries in New York. For those unable to attend, however, the artist worked with acclaimed publisher Rizzoli on a new catalog documenting the experience.

While the show is filled with many different Spaceships, visually speaking, Sachs subverts the meaning of the word by exploring a spaceship as nothing more than a vessel for transportation. Under this framework, a guillotine, he argues, can also be viewed as a spaceship that transports one from life to death; similarly, a cathedral elevates one from the body to a higher state of being.

Printed in Italy, the book is limited to just 3,600 copies worldwide, features a foreword written by Alexander Acquavella, along with essays by Thomas Crow and Daniel Pinchbeck.

Tom Sachs: Spaceships is available to purchase for $65 USD. Meanwhile, the exhibition will conclude in New York on November 26.

In related news, Volume documents Ikumi Nakamura’s “Project UrbEx”.
