Balmain’s latest collaboration sees the unparalleled influence of Stranger Things take high-fashion as the historic French house launches a new collection inspired by the hit Netflix series. The new collaboration was teased earlier in September at Balmain’s extensive Paris Fashion Week festival where the collection’s striking prints were subtly featured within a Stranger Things pop-up.
Landing on November 6, the annual Stranger Things Day, the range arrives with clothing, accessories and a special-edition iteration of the house’s signature B-Court sneaker. Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing builds on the classic ‘80s wardrobes in the series, channeling the era’s bright pop spirit.
Tights, baggy tops and throw over hoodies – echoing the looks in ‘80s music videos, jazzercise workouts and visits to the mall – rely on abstract prints and contrasting graphic patterns. Adapting the capsule’s bold offerings for everyday wear, wool over-shirts and knitted jumpers come in block pastel tones, which can be paired with its straight-cut denim jeans.
The collection is rounded off with patches that detail popular logos and catchphrases from Stranger Things, as well as an iPhone case taking similar cues. Balmain’s B-Court silhouette also gets decked out in glitchy graphics with light gray overlay and pink piping, tying together with the hoodie in the range.
Speaking on the creative fusion of aesthetics, Olivier Rousteing shares, “I knew that blending our heritage, French stylings and artisanal skills with Stranger Things’ distinctive look was going to be a perfect blend. I told my team that we were going to create the ideal inventory for a special luxury boutique that could have been set inside the Starcourt Mall from season 3. So, we played with ideas that we’ve shown on our fashion-week runways, as well as favorite looks from the series’ different characters—and then made sure to rely on that expert styling, tailoring and embellishment that one expects from Balmain.”
The Balmain x Stranger Things capsule collection will be available tomorrow at Balmain flagships in LA and Paris, the house’s website as well as the Netflix Shop.
