Jil Sander+ FW22 Explores the Harsh Nature of Iceland
Keeping warm in down-filled coats, virgin wool overshirts, and jacquard knit sweaters.
Jil Sander+ is the more practical, functional, everyday division of the Lucie and Luke Meier-helmed imprint Jil Sander. It puts a focus on essentials elevated for the outdoors lifestyle, whether that’s for the city or the mountains where the Creative Director duo feel at home, while form follows function for garments that are utilitarian, relaxed, and cozy. This couldn’t ring truer for Fall/Winter 2022, which has since been captured in a campaign shot by the British photographer Nikki McClarron to showcase the collection’s versatility and tactility.
Shot in the North Eastern region of Iceland, and thus in some of the country’s harshest conditions, the campaign is intimidating in its starkness and intimacy. This blank space is complemented, though, by the clothing in question — a collection of pieces that follow the minimalistic Jil Sander formula and dial it down further, enhanced more by their properties than their forms.
For example, the white hooded parka comes with detachable padding and a shearling collar, and comes in an oversized fit to ensure all those added layers can fit underneath. Those might include Jil Sander+’s own like the cotton fleece sweatshirt, the wool funnel neck jacquard sweater, or the checkered virgin wool overshirt jacket.
To layer, Jil Sander+ serves down jackets in cream and khaki tones, down scarves in a similar puffy manner, loosely structured vests, shirt jackets and more. However, standouts like a flocked fleece co-ord or the mohair scarf that matches this and the A-line skirt and shirt jacket with its bleach-like print are also on deck.
