You Aren't Ready for Normani and Cardi B's "Wild Side"

Think “WAP” 2.0 meets Aaliyah “One In a Million.”

Normani is back with full force, debuting her new single “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B. With a sample from Aaliyah’s 1996 hit “One In a Million,” “Wild Side” was destined to be a slowed down, sensual RnB song that’s quite the transition from her 2019 smash “Motivation.” Instead, this new song is a bit like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” but all grown up — just listen to the lyrics and you’ll know what we mean.

The new track debuted this morning and comes with a fitting music video filled with choreography (developed by Sean Bankhead who also did “Motivation”) that only Normani and Cardi B could pull off. Multiple outfit changes, various scenes, and lots of camera angles really draw you into Normani’s gaze, all while making you completely not ready for Cardi B’s verse.

When you think the song has ended, Bardigang fans will notice that instant punch of Cardi B’s vocals. “Treat me like a watch, bust me down” comes in, and we’re instantly reminded of exactly how the rapper approaches things — there’s no holding back. This is paired with Cardi B and Normani embracing around a chain, and while “WAP” was all fast-paced and floor-pounding, this feels much more direct and controlled, which only makes the rap verse more commanding.

In a press statement, Normani said: “She really showed up for me and brought this record to life by simply doing what Cardi does best. I love that woman down and I’m forever grateful.”

In other news, Pop Smoke’s second posthumous album has dropped.
