Despite being discontinued earlier this year, Patek Philippe is back with the mother of all hype watches, a 170-piece limited edition stainless steel Nautilus 5711 to celebrate its relationship with retailer, Tiffany & Co.

New York-based jeweller and retailer Tiffany & Co has been selling Patek Philippe watches for 170 years, an agreement reached in 1851 between Charles Lewis Tiffany and Antoine Norbert de Patek when both companies were still in their infancy.

This “special relationship” endures today. Tiffany’s flagship Fifth Avenue became the site of Patek’s first US boutique in 2008 and it remains the only retailer anywhere in the world permitted to “double sign” the dials of the Patek watches it sells today, something that instantly attaches a premium to said watches.

The 5711/1A-018 features a Tiffany blue dial – “double signed” with Tiffany’s own branding, naturally – and black hands and hour markers. On the reverse, a sapphire crystal caseback is printed with “Tiffany & Co – Patek Philippe 170th Anniversary 1851 – 2021”.

Patek Philippe don’t tend to release limited editions outside of their own anniversaries and biennial Watch Art exhibitions, but have produced several for Tiffany in the recent past.

While the last edition of the 5711 created, the green-dialled 5711/1A-014, retailed for $34,893 USD, this new 5711/1A-018 Tiffany edition will sell for $52,635 USD.

The green Nautilus was announced in April with a limited 12-month production window, after which the 5711 reference would be retired for good. Despite picking up the ‘Final Edition’ moniker, Patek Philippe CEO Thierry Stern has made cryptic suggestions that there was “something else” on the way.

The 170 pieces will be offered by Tiffany’s New York, Beverly Hills and San Francisco boutiques with one piece being auctioned off through Phillips New York on December 11 with all proceeds goings to The Nature Conservancy, a global environmental organization.
