NANZUKA is currently holding a group exhibition called “Prism” at its UNDERGROUND location. The show highlights a cast of prominent and emerging artists who are making waves in their respective fields. Yoon Hyup is one such artist, who also has a new solo exhibition, entitled “THE PLANETS” at NANZUKA’s 2G location.

Now based in New York, the artist creates work through a simplistic yet satisfying use of color, line, and composition. In the past, Hyup takes scenes and cityscapes and transforms them through dot-like paintings that reference his own travels and fascination with the rhythms of music and creative perspectives found in street culture.

The four circular paintings on display continue along this trajectory and are complemented by a unique sculptural piece that draws the viewer in. The latest work is inspired by the cities found along the Aegean Sea and takes its title from Gang Starr’s The Planet which tells the story of the hustle-and-bustle found in Brooklyn.

“THE PLANETS” is Hyup’s first solo exhibition in Japan and will be on view until October 24.

Elsewhere, Kenny Scharf has painted 12 surfboards for charity.
