Leica's Q2 Monochrom Camera Is a Black-and-White Photographer's Dream

Leica’s first autofocus monochrome camera — the Q2 Monochrom camera — promises to deliver.
This next-generation model in the Leica Q line offers a newly developed 47-megapixel monochrome sensor developed for black and white photography, 4K video recording capability and precise autofocus, which accurately focuses on a subject in 0.15 seconds. The 47.3 megapixel full frame monochrome sensor is used to capture video as well as highly detailed stills, and the fast f/1.7 aperture allows for optimum picture quality in challenging lighting conditions.
The Q2 Monocrom also offers exceptional freedom in composing black and white. A practical locking element located on the lens allows the choice of manual or automatic focusing and easy switching to macro mode, which gives a close focus distance of 17cm. The integrated zoom function also been extended to 75mm.
The camera body is constructed from lightweight magnesium alloy and dressed in monochrome — a new black leather body, matte black paint and gray and white engravings — with elegant “MONOCHROM” lettering on the top. The signature red Leica logo was purposefully omitted from the design as well. A range of optional accessories are also available for the Q2 Monochrom, including flash units, an additional thumb rest, a hand grip and three new E49 color filters in yellow, green and orange calculated to be perfectly matched to the camera.
