Leica Updates Its M10-P Camera With Kevlar Armor
Dubbed the “Reporter” edition.
Leica has just unveiled a new limited edition M10-P camera. Shown at this year’s 2020 LOBA (Leica Oskar Barnack Award) award ceremony, it was revealed that the idea was inspired by photojournalist Gabriele Micalizzi’s fateful time in Syria where an RPG exploded in front of him. Had it not been for his Leica SL camera held up to his eye at the time of the explosion, Micalizzi would have been gravely injured.
The “Reporter” edition is a homage to all the brave photojournalists who risk their lives in capturing scenes in dangerous environments. Just like the vest that Micalizzi was wearing in Syria, the Leica M10-P “Reporter” sees a sage green paint job and is finished with a kevlar armor that wraps around the front of the camera.
This camera is set to drop in January of next year and comes with a matching paracord camera strap. The team at Leica has even jokingly said they may test the durability of the “Reporter” with real bullets.
