Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, and George Clinton Question Social Media in "Grid" Animated Video
Offering social commentary and urging folks to get off the grid.
Public Enemy dropped new visuals for “Grid,” a single featuring Cypress Hill and George Clinton off their latest project What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down?. The music video above, directed by Ice the Endles, utilizes animated footage to portray the groups lyrics tackling social media, the government, and society’s tech overlords. It also showcases what may happen if everyone were forced off the grid to live a life without technology.
There are visual nods to shows like Schoolhouse Rock and Scooby-Doo as an animated Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, and Clinton unmask a KKK hooded ghost that’s revealed to be Donald Trump. Backgrounds and visual effects for the animation were done by ThatOneDudeZach and RMELL and ARTJCON, respectively. The track itself is produced by DJ Premier.
