Kazakhstan's Tourism Board Adopts Borat's "Very Nice!" As Official Slogan
“Kazakhstan’s people, despite Borat’s jokes to the contrary, are some of the nicest in the world.”
While the people of Kazakhstan have expressed their sentiments on Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Borat character, and his portrayal of their country (a petition to cancel the movie has already reached over 100,000 signatures), that hasn’t stopped Kazakhstan’s tourism board from riding off the film’s popularity.
In a new series of promotional videos, Borat‘s signature phrase “Very Nice!” is used when showing off a number of picturesque locations and attractions in Kazakhstan. The deputy chairman of Kazakhstan’s tourism board, Kairat Sadvakassov, commented: “In COVID times, when tourism spending is on hold, it was good to see the country mentioned in the media. Not in the nicest way, but it’s good to be out there. Kazakhstan’s nature is very nice. Its food is very nice. And its people, despite Borat’s jokes to the contrary, are some of the nicest in the world.”
