A 220-Piece Maison Margiela Archive Collection is Heading to Auction
A one-of-five playing cards vest is estimated to sell up to $11,200 USD.
A Maison Margiela collector will be selling off a part of their personal archive in an auction at Sotheby’s Paris, which will see rare one-of-five pieces and garments that date back to the house’s beginnings. The sale is comprised of 220 pieces made by the Belgian designer, which cover over 20 years worth of menswear and womenswear.
Star items from the lot include the one-of-five men’s playing card vest from the “40!” Artisanal collection, which is made from an assortment of shuffled, aged, frayed and ironed cards, as well as a one-of-two bow-tie dress. The 2006 playing card vest is valued between approximately $9,000 USD and $11,200 USD, making it one of the most expensive garments up for auction.
Leather pieces from Margiela’s Fall/Winter 1992 “Salvation Army” collection are estimated to go for around $2000 USD, while pieces from the photographic print collection of Spring/Summer 1996 are estimated to sell for approximately $1700 USD.
