Maison Margiela has taken its hand to utilitarian design with the release of its latest silhouette, the Union boot. The boots feature foam-inserts, a leather and nubuck construction and round dual-tone laces, which come together to deliver a premium take on the archetype wheat six-inch boot.
Elevating the utilitarian design further is an exaggerated cleated sole unit which features a rear clear rubber bumper — tapping the glue-covered design of its Fusion Sneaker — and exposed foam panels for a contemporary finish. Design elements such as hexagon-shaped metal eyelets, a padded tongue and a rear pull tab, as well as a padded black leather collar, reference the boot’s simplistic beginnings. A Maison Margiela tongue tab and a single white stitch on the rear give the boot its distinctively minimalist touch.
