Lupe Fiasco Debuts "Air China" Video Inspired by His 'Beats N Path' Docuseries
His award-winning documentary now has a new single to promote it.
Towards the end of last month, Lupe Fiasco brought his 2018 docuseries Beats N Path to the internet, allowing audiences everywhere an opportunity to catch each part of the award-winning venture for free. Comprised of nine episodes, Beats N Path chronicles the intersection between music and martial arts, with Fiasco heading to major cities across the globe to document how their local cultures connect with the same passions that have motivated him throughout his entire life. Specifically, the Simon Yin-directed, Studio SV-produced effort follows Lupe Fiasco as he travels to cities like Beijing and Chicago to discover their unique regional bonds to hip-hop music and fighting styles like Kung Fu.
“Before the music, it was all about the martial arts,” Lupe Fiasco shares via an official statement. “I trained in the martial arts with my father since I was about three years old and it’s always been a passion of mine. Little hints of it pop up here and there in my music, but for the most part, my fans never really saw my martial arts side. They only know me for being a musician and a rapper. Hopefully this show will introduce people to that side of me.”
To promote and support Beats N Path‘s digital debut, Lupe Fiasco is also serving up a new music video and single inspired by the series and his experiences filming it. Known as “Air China,” the Chicago legend’s latest record is a 3-minute-and-50-second distillation of his recent exploration of rap and martial arts.
