Blood Orange Take Us to a Royal Court for New "Benzo" Video
The first visual companion for ‘Angel’s Pulse.’
Towards the end of last week, Dev Hynes served up his latest full-length studio project as Blood Orange, Angel’s Pulse. Billed as a mixtape, Blood Orange’s Angel’s Pulse presented listeners with 14 new records to digest, including collaborative cuts with Toro Y Moi, Project Pat, Arca, Tinashe, Gangsta Boo and more. Continuing to support Angel’s Pulse, Blood Orange is sharing a visual for one of it vibrant solo highlights, “Benzo.”
A self-directed piece, the “Benzo” music video uses a royal court as its setting and also stars one of Hynes’ close collaborators Ian Isaiah. Today’s vignette is also notable for being Angel’s Pulse‘s visual companion.
“My new record is called Angel’s Pulse & I performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing myself. I’m calling it a mixtape,” Dev Hynes explained via an official statement, sharing some insight into the creative process that birthed “Benzo.” “I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time… I decided to release it. I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them.”

Blood Orange’s previous visual release was for Negro Swan‘s “Hope” track, which featured Puff Daddy and more.
