Fans of Netflix’ discontinued series The Punisher will be familiar with the face that starred as Frank Castle; Jon Bernthal has filled the role of another lead. This time the actor plays a villain instead of an anti-hero, imagined as an animated ex-Ghost in Tom Clancy‘s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

With some news of the game leaked over the last couple of weeks, Ubisoft has followed with an official announcement that reveals some key details about the upcoming project. The game will be a sequel to its previous 2017 release, Ghost Recon Wildlands, adding another dimension to the continued narrative. Eric Couzian, the game’s Creative Director, explained how Bernthal was perfect for the role of the main villain: “Because of the TV show we saw with Jon, his background with military universes, his personality. He’s not a trope character, even though he’s the bad guy. You will understand his motivation and it’s interesting to see how he used to view the Ghosts and drifted slowly. You feel that there’s a conflict deep within him.”

Bernthal will play an ex-Ghost by the name of Cole D. Walker. According to Couzian, the reason for creating such a character was motivated by the fact that the makers wanted an antagonist more threatening than the “Ghosts” that you would probably be accustomed to now if you’ve played the previous games. Ubisoft decided that the route they would take with this would be in the form of ex-Ghosts, called “Wolves,” in the game. Though The Punisher is now discontinued, Bernthal’s badass personality will be one to look out for in the upcoming animated project.
