D Smoke Delivers Poignant Visual for "Honey Jack"
The winner of Netflix’s ‘Rhythm + Flow’ seeks to shine light on sociocultural woes.
Winner of Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow and SiR’s older brother, D Smoke, has released a visual for “Honey Jack,” a standout cut from his recent Inglewood High EP. A Spanish and music theory teacher at Inglewood High School, D Smoke has managed to sculpt out a riotous path over the past year following his win from Netflix’s rap contest show, showcasing that he can deliver introspective poetics via a variety of meticulous flows, equally rapping in Spanish. He was most recently featured on The Game’s Born 2 Rap album.
“Honey Jack” remains an introspective tale in relation to Honey Jack Daniels, addressing “full glasses” of the liquor as a way to forget about various social problems he’s witnessed in his hometown. The track was co-written by longtime TDE collaborator Terrace Martin (who graces the track with his saxophone) and further produced by Mizz Beats. The childs-directed visual transports the rapper to the early 1900s, attempting to showcase a time where sociocultural woes were seemingly less full-frontal. In turn, the visual showcases scenes of police brutality and more, eerily reminding audiences that times haven’t changed.
